The Great Race

(0)
A new edit of ‘The Great Race’ for Chinese New Year 22nd January 2023. There are lots of oppotunities to ask who, what, when, where questions when discussing this lovely story of how the Chinese New Year began. Toy animals and props could be used to act out the story. The story could also open up discussion about feelings for example how might the ox be feeling when the rat won the race.

Recycling

Powerpoint containing 27 slides. Updated to include a Reggie and Ruby’s bright idea. ‘One Planet Earth’ Global set of colours for recycling. This resource introduces different materials that can be recycled. I have designed Reggie Robot to help to engage children with recycling rubbish and also to hopefully simplify the process by matching Reggie’s rubbish collectors to the colours of the outside bins at home. The first step to ‘recycle right’ is to put things in the right bin. The resource has been designed using the colours of Manchester City Council bins but can easily be edited to match any outside bins to the colours of Reggie’s rubbish collectors… The children can engage in a sorting rubbish game. Slide 9 revisits the mathematical language, most and least. The PowerPoint has 27 slides and talks about the the importance of recycling and includes photographs of both natural and man made materials. I have tried to make the resource as simple as possible so that children in the upper stages of reception and in Key stage 1 will be able to engage with it. Early introduction to recycling is so important. The resource includes the potential to extend learning or simplify further. Finally, there is an inspiration to design and invent, I hope you and the children enjoy it.

Wonderful Winter

A rhyming account of all the wonders of winter. The PowerPoint has 15 slides and contains effects that you need to press play for on slides: 4, 5 and 10. There is a song to dance to on slide 13 and then Aulde Lang Syne on slide 15. This resource can easily be extended or simplified to cater for the needs of your children. There are lots of opportunities to ask who, what, when and why questions. Older children can consider metaphoric phrases and also things that are natural and things that are man made. I wish you all a lovely Christmas with your families and a happy, healthy 2021.

Spectacular Spring

This 18 slide PowerPoint highlights the ‘Spectacular’ signs of Spring. I have included photographs taken in and around Wythenshawe and a video providing audial and visual aids to celebrate this wonderful time of year. The rhyming string throughout the PowerPoint complements the photographs. This resource would be a great introduction to a nature sound walk for children in early years and a visual aid introducing signs of Spring. The language can be adapted to cater for the needs of your children. Metaphors have been used throughout the poem which would be a great introduction to poetry for older children and also to introduce the use of cameras to capture the beauty of nature.

This 12 slide PowerPoint highlights some of the super characteristics of summer. I have included photographs and videos providing visual aids to celebrate this wonderful time of year. The rhyming descriptions throughout the PowerPoint complement the photographs. This resource would be a great introduction to the summer season and could lead into a piece of writing about a summer holiday or a particular aspect of the summer season. The language can be adapted to cater for the needs of your children. The children could use cameras to take photographs or draw to illustrate their writing. I’ve included Otis Redding’s ‘Dock of the Bay’ on slide 1.

Early Years Paper Recycling - Aggie the Alien Loves Trees

(0)
This 12 slide PowerPoint is designed to help children in Early Years understand the importance of recycling paper. The simple message is clear. It includes a slide with the challenge of designing and making a paper recycle bin like Aggie or they can think of a different design. There is an extension slide for older children. Reduce the need to cut down trees **Re-use materials to make a paper recycle bin Recycle paper ** Take turns to assist emptying Aggie in the right outside bin reinforcing how and why we need to recycle paper.
